Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara - Review

Hi Beauties!

I feel like I haven't done a mascara review in forever!

The Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara has been getting a lot of great reviews online so I knew it was one that I wanted to try.  It is said to be ultra-volumizing and that it gives the look of false lashes

It comes in a black octagonal tube and it has a natural bristle hourglass shaped wand (very much like the Too Faced Better Than Sex wand).

This mascara is very black and the formula is very wet.  Typically I don't like wet formulas as they weigh down my lashes and cause major clumping.

The Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir mascara did NOT weigh down my lashes, in fact, it definitely did a fantastic job at holding a curl and made my lashes look super long and black and made my eyes look open and wide.  However, this mascara clumps and sticks my lashes together like crazy.  I have to run a lash comb through it after every coat and I can't get more than 2 coats on without having horrible spider-y looking lashes.  As you can see below, even 2 coats began to cause my lashes to stick together.

Here's my lashes with 1 and 2 coats of this mascara.

While I do like the drama that the Velvet Noir mascara gives my lashes, it's a bit too high maintenance for me since I have to be so careful about clumping.  I prefer mascaras that separate out my lashes while holding a curl.  While this mascara does give volume and darkness, I just hate the look of clumped together lashes as it looks too spider-y to me.  Still to this day my favorite mascara is the Chanel Inimitable.

The Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara can be purchased at Sephora for $28.

By the way, there's already been a spoiler for this month's Play! By Sephora Subscription box that everyone will receive a sample of this mascara!  To sign up, click here.
