Morphe X Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette - Review, Pros/Cons, Photos & Swatches

I don't think that any other makeup release has ever had as much hype as this eyeshadow palette collaboration between Youtuber Jaclyn Hill and indie makeup brand Morphe Brushes.  Keep reading to see photos, swatches and my honest thoughts on all the positives and negatives of the Morphe X Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette!

Note - This palette is now conveniently sold at Ulta!

We knew Jaclyn was working on some collaboration and it was revealed several months ago that it was an eye shadow palette with Morphe.  This is Jaclyn's second eye shadow collaboration with Morphe.  Though, the first palette was just her picking her favorite Morphe shadows that already exist.  This collaboration is supposedly 2 years in the making and every shade is customized by Jaclyn herself and the formula is said to be different from other Morphe shadows.

This is a 35 pan palette and it retailed for $38 which is really steep considering Morphe's other 35 pan palettes sell for $22.99.  You can always use someone's affiliate code for 10% off which brings the price down to $34.20.  However, there's then Morphe's $7.95 shipping fee, add that in and the palette comes to about $42.  That's still not too bad considering you get 35 eye shadow colors.

Now let's talk about the's certainly pretty...but it's white.  It got dirty within minutes of me swatching the shadows.  It's cardboard but it doesn't feel very sturdy, in fact mine arrived with the lower right corner slightly bent.  Now if this was an order from Sephora, I'd take it right back to the store and exchange for another one.  But because this is an indie online brand, I don't think that would fly in this situation (not to mention the fact that this palette is currently sold out and limited edition).  I compared the cardboard to the Morphe X Kathleen Lights Eyeshadow Palette and the cardboard of that palette actually feels more study.  Another major complaint I (and almost everyone else) have about the packaging is that the shadow names are not printed on the palette itself.  This is incredibly annoying in my opinion.  If you were working on a palette for 2 years, take a little more time and figure out how to put the shadow names on the palette itself.  That said, the shadow names are included in a little insert.  Sidenote - I heard that many people didn't even receive the insert though apparently Morphe is sending the insert out to them separately.
Edit: Now that the palette is sold at Ulta, I heard the packaging is sturdier and glossy so it's easy to wipe down.  I also saw that the shadow names are now shown on the back of the palette.

Eyeshadow Colors

I love the shade range in this palette!  There are a ton of neutral shades and also several pops of color. There's also a lot of crease/transition colors which is great.  One MAJOR thing that's missing is a matte browbone shade which I believe is crucial in most eyeshadow looks.  I'm really perplexed as to how Jaclyn Hill overlooked this.

Eyeshadow Swatches

The quality of these shadows are truly outstanding!  They feel like butter and swatch amazingly.  I'm sure you've seen all of the videos of just how well they swatch, well I can tell you that those are all true.  The shimmers are buttery and incredibly pigmented and most of the mattes swatch nicely as well.  There were only a few that swatched a bit patchy.

Here are two eyeshadow looks I created with this palette.

This first look was inspired by this video from Kathleen Lights.  I created it because I wanted an 80s look for the NKOTB concert I was going to last weekend (that also explains the obnoxious pink lip).

Transition - M.F.E.O.
Crease - Buns, Hunts, Jacz
Lid - Royalty
Outer V - Soda Pop

I absolutely love the below cranberry look I created with this palette.  It's very similar to a look that would create with my ABH Modern Renaissance Palette.

Transition - M.F.E.O., Creamsicle
Crease - Hunts, Jacz
Outer Lid - Cranapple
Inner Lid - Obsessed
Outer V - Jacz

Overall Thoughts

I've had this palette for a couple of weeks now and I've been using it every time that I've worn makeup so that I could form an honest opinion of it.  All of the shades I've used apply beautifully to the eyes, blend easily but not so much that they become muddy.  As expected, the shimmers are best applied wet or with your finger.
Favorite lid shades: Obsessed, Faint
Favorite transition shades: M.F.E.O, Creamsicle
Favorite crease shades: Hunts, Jacz

Overall, despite my gripes about the packaging, I'm really enjoying this palette and I'm glad that I bought it.  The quality of the shadows is truly excellent.  I do wish it was cheaper and that the packaging was better quality, had shade names, and wasn't white.

I would 100% recommend the Morphe X Jaclyn Hills Eyeshadow Palette
