Two Shades of Plum...Blushes! NARS Blush in Sin & theBalm Instain Blush in Pinstripe

Today I will be discussing two very similar blushes.

I was going to review these blushes separately but when I saw how similar they are I decided to feature them together.

I've had the NARS blush in Sin for a few months now and it quickly became my favorite.  The only other NARS blush I own is Orgasm which I love.  I had heard a lot of love for Sin but I just didn't understand the big deal because it doesn't look that exciting in the pan.  Until one day when I had my makeup done at Sephora and the MUA used Sin...I fell in love.  This blush is a gorgeous plum color with a subtle gold shimmer.  It's SUPER pigmented so you have to use a very light hand (I actually apply it with a stippling brush) and the gold shimmer give you the slightest glow.  This has the typical matte black rubber-feeling packaging that NARS is known for.  As you can see in the photo below, it gets dirty and scratches really easily, but when it's brand new it's gorgeous!

I got theBalm Cosmetics Instain Blush in Pinstripe a little over a month ago off of Hautelook during one of their flash sales.  Look at that adorable packaging!  It's a hard cardboard material with a magnetic closure.  I didn't realize that it was so similar in color to Sin until I received it in the mail.  It's a similar plum color but this is matte.  This blush is actually slightly more pigmented than Sin so I apply this with a stippling brush as well.

Here are photos of the blushes side by side.

L - R: theBalm Instain Blush in Pinstripe, NARS Blush in Sin

As you can see from the swatches, theBalm Instain Pinstripe is more pigmented and doesn't have any shimmer at all.  Both of these blushes are extremely long wearing.

theBalm blushes retail for $22 but they are on Hautelook fairly often so you can get them for half off if you are patient.  Unfortunately NARS blushes are $30 and discounts are only available a few times a year (through Sephora VIB sales for example).

I love both NARS Blush in Sin and theBalm Instain Blush in Pinstripe but if I HAD to pick one, I'd pick NARS Sin.  I like the softer plum shade and the gold shimmer really gives it that something special.

What do you guys think?  Have you tried either of these?  If you have both, do you have a favorite?
