Manicure Monday - Essie Steel-ing the Scene + Maybelline Colorshow Dotty

Hi beauties, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Since I got a gel mani last month, I gave myself several weeks off from any polishes to give my nails a little break.  Here I am back to manis and here are the two polishes I used.

For this look I applied 2 coats of Essie's Steel-ing the Scene which is a silver.  To be honest I am not a huge fan of silver on my nails because it really reminds me of the 90s since I used to always do silver back then.

After I was getting sick of the silver, I added Maybelline Colorshow in Dotty.  This color is a sheer peach color with black and white dots like a splatter.  I had to use 2 coats of this polish in order to get a decent distribution of dots on each nail.

I thought this was a very pretty combo, though I think that Dotty would probably look better over a dark pink polish.

I hope you enjoyed this Manicure Monday - nail of the day!  Have a great week!

Frugal Friday - Rimmel Scandaleyes Curve Alert Mascara - Review

Happy Friday everyone!

In today's edition of Frugal Friday I will be discussing the Rimmel Scandaleyes Curve Alert Mascara which goes for about $6 depending on where you buy it from.

This mascara has a huge natural bristle brush which is actually not my favorite as I prefer the plastic spiky wands.  The brush itself is about the size of my entire eyeball and as you can guess, application can get really messy.

Because of the size of the brush, I have to be extremely careful when applying this mascara.  Here are photos of my lashes with 1, 2, and 3 coats of this mascara.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Curve Alert 1 coat

Rimmel Scandaleyes Curve Alert 2 coats
Rimmel Scandaleyes Curve Alert 3 coats

Overall, the Rimmel Scandaleyes Curve Alert mascara is just ok.  It doesn't really give much drama and takes me way too long to apply because I have to be careful because of the giant wand.  I will say that I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't a huge problem with clumping if you are light handed with each coat.  I most likely won't be repurchasing this mascara.

Have you tried this mascara?  What do you think??

Too Faced & Tarte Haul

Recently Too Faced had a big big sale on their website and I went a little overboard (shocker, I know).  Tarte also recently had a 50% off one day special on their Power Pigment Lip Crayons and the new Cheek Stains which I took advantage off.

I will start with my Too Faced goodies.  Many of these items are still available on the Too Faced website, just not at as deep of a discount that I got a few weeks ago.

Joy to the Girls Eye Shadow Palette
This is a palette with 15 shadows and a full size LashGASM Mascara.  There are matte and shimmer shadows and it's possible to use just this palette for a full eye look.  I will warn however, that the packaging on this is very thick and bulky.

Be Merry & Bright Set
This set comes in a large makeup bag that is see through on one side.  It includes two separate palettes and a full size Lash Injection Mascara.  Each palette has a blush and a bronzer which is nice.

Summer Eyes Eye Shadow Palette
This is a really pretty tin container and the shadows included are gorgeous and almost all shimmers.  I've been playing with this since I got it and to have a complete eye look you'd definitely need some matte shades not included in this palette.

Jingle All The Way Palette
This palette comes in a phone shape.  All the shadow shades are gorgeous and it includes a bronzer and blush.  I'm keeping this palette in my desk at work for touch ups or if I decide to go out after work.  I also love the pink chevron phone case!

All I Want for Christmas
This set includes a full size shadow insurance, a sample size Lash Injection mascara, a mini eye liner, a full size lipstick, and a mirrored compact with a blush, a gorgeous taupe and a cream colored shadow.  This is an awesome kit and I love the chevron bag everything came in.

At Tarte I got 3 Power Pigment crayons, and a cheek stain.

The lip crayons I got are True Love, Blushing Bride, and Flush.  I've been wearing these and I absolutely love them (reviews coming soon)!  I haven't tried the cheek tint yet but I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Well that's all of my goodies.  I did get free samples from both websites which included bronzers and primer on a piece of paper (pretty lame samples considering how much money I spent).  I know that I went overboard at Too Faced but I didn't swatch most of the palettes and I plan on saving some of them for gifts or perhaps a giveaway.

Do you have any of these products?  What do you think of them?

March Ipsy Bag

It's that time of month again...time for the arrival of our Ipsy bags!

Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription service.  For $10 per month you get 4-6 deluxe samples or full size beauty items as well a a cute makeup bag.

The theme of this month's bag is "Destination Beauty", so I guess travel.  I'm not really sure why this is special since most sample size products are appropriate for travel.  Anywho.  Starting this month Ipsy will be working with new artists.  The first artist they worked with, Klari Reis, designed this month's bag.  The bag itself has a rubbery feel with jelly bean looking shapes.

This is a deluxe sample size.  This lipstick feels super moisturizing and has a peppermint flavor which I love.  I also feel like the mauve color would work for most skin tones.

This is a mini size product which is sold on the Pixi site.  We've gotten a few Pixi products from Ipsy and I've liked each one.  The tube claims that this will even the skintone and give a youthful glow. This primer is not clear and has a bit of a sheen to it.

These colors are really pretty.  I plan to give this palette away since I have all these eye shadow colors in other palettes.

Wow, this is a full fize eyeliner.  The color is absolutely gorgeous.  I can't wait to use this eyeliner.

Chella Indigo eye liner, bareMinerals Get Ready

This was another impressive month for Ipsy.  Although I only received 4 items, you can see that I still got my $10 worth and then some!  I'm most excited for the lipstick and the eyeliner.  If you're a beauty product lover like me, you'll love Ipsy.  If you'd like to sign up you can click on my referral link anywhere that you see Ipsy in this post.

What was in your Ipsy bag?  What was your favorite item??

Frugal Friday - L'Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lip Stain & Extraordinaire Lip Color

Happy Friday beauties!

Today I'll be discussing 2 new-ish lip products from L'Oreal, the Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lip Stain & Extraordinaire Lip Color.  Both of these retail for around $9.99 depending on the store.

I got the Lip stain in Rose On and On and the Extraordinaire Lip Color in Coral Encore.

The Extraordinaire Lip Color is super creamy, much like a balm, but also a little sticky and a little goopy.  It actually lasts a good amount of time on my lips as well, though not nearly as long at the Lip Stain.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lip Color in Coral Encore

The Lip Stain is said to be a dupe for the YSL Glossy Stain which I've reviewed here.  The L'Oreal version smells and feels almost exactly the same, it feels almost watery on the lips.  The best way to apply is the same way I apply the YSL Glossy Stain.  Apply a layer and wait a couple of minutes, don't rub your lips together.  Then apply the second layer and more if you like.  I only need the two layers and it lasts for hours on me.  I would say this product is a pretty darn close dupe for the YSL Glossy Stain!

L'Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lip Stain in Rose On and On

I love both the L'Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lip Stain & Extraordinaire Lip Color for different reasons.  I like the Lip Stain because it lasts so long and I like the Colour Riche Extraordinaire because it feels like a balm.

If you can find these on sale and have coupons, definitely pick one or both up.  And if you were debating between this stain and the YSL version, this is a great dupe!

Have you tried either one of these lippies?  What are your thoughts on them??

Estee Lauder Lilly Pulitzer Gift with Purchase & Skincare and Foundation Finder Tools

I had recently run out of my holy grail foundation, Estee Lauder Double Wear so I was really excited to find out that there was a Macy's gift with purchase (GWP) going on.

The GWP includes 7 items that are valued at $120.  Macy's collaborated with Lilly Pulitzer again for the cosmetic bag and it's absolutely gorgeous.

Also included in this GWP is (from the Macy's website):
  • Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II
  • Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara in Black (10-day supply)
  • Take It Away Makeup Remover Lotion (deluxe travel size)
  • Choice of deluxe size Moisturizer: DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant Creme SPF 15 OR Resilience Lift Firming/Sculpting Face and Neck Creme SPF 15
  • Choice of Makeup: Subtle or Bold
  • Subtle: Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Sugar Honey (full-size) and Pure Color EyeShadow Quad in Sugar Biscuit, Nude Fresco, Hot Cinnamon and Lavish Mink
  • Bold: Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Pink Parfait (full-size) and Pure Color EyeShadow Quad in Tranquil Moon, Iridescent Violet, Tempting Mocha and Amethyst Spark
I chose the "bold" makeup shades.

The shadow colors are gorgeous and I love the shade of lipstick.  I've used the deluxe size samples of the Advanced Night Repair in the past and this product has always improved my skin.  This is a wonderful GWP so if you were thinking about taking advantage, think no more and get yourself to Macy's!

I'd also like to tell you about a new foundation and skincare selection tool on the Macy's website.  After 3 or 4 questions depending on the tool you are using, the calculator helps you identify the perfect skincare product or foundation type for your skincare and beauty needs.  This is just like the tools that consultants use at the counter and it's right at your fingertips!

Macy's Estee Lauder Foundation Finder

Macy's Estee Lauder Skincare Finder

If you're new to Estee Lauder skincare products or foundations definitely use this tool to help you out and don't forget that if you spend $35 you get the amazing Lilly Pulitzer gift with purchase!  You'd better hurry though because the GWP offer ends on March 23rd.

Did you get this gift with purchase?  Have you tried the Double Wear foundation??

Would You Rather Tag - Beauty Edition

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  Mine was good.  I actually met up with my local beauty blogger friend, Tanya over at Leopard Lace and Cheesecake.  We had such a great time gabbing over drinks and yummy food.  We talked for hours about blogging, life, and of course makeup!   ")

I also wanted to let you guys know that my regular posting schedule of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday might be disrupted this week because my laptop it out getting fixed so I don't have it to edit my photos. The good part is that this will give me a chance to catch up on my tags this week.

Tanya tagged me in this Would You Rather Tag.

1) Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lipglosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?

I'd rather lose my palettes and shadows.  Drama and sexiness can be achieved using liners, mascaras, and lippies and skipping out on the eye shadows.

2) Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?

Ok, if I had to chop it off would it grow back??  Because I hate short hair, especially on me.  If it would grow back, then I'd just chop it off the one time.  If it would never grow back then I'd rather have Rapunzel hair.

3) Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?

4) If you had $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

Clothes.  I agree with Tanya, clothes cost more and it's much more difficult for me to spend a lot on clothes than makeup because even the most expensive makeup is still fairly affordable.

5) Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?

Lipstick as eyeliner because you can probably find an almost brownish one to use on your eyes.

6) Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?

Sephora.  I'd rather shop somewhere that has many brands and options available.

8) Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?

I'd rather wear winter clothes in the summer because you can take off layers.  Also, I can't stand being cold so summer clothes in the winter would be torture for me.

9) Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

I like both dark and bright nails but I'd rather have dark year round because dark is more versatile.

10) Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?

I'd rather give up my favorite lip product.  Eye makeup is my favorite of all my makeups.

11) Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?

Messy bun.  Ponytails hurt sometimes and they make me cold.  Weird, I know.

12) Would your rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?

I'd rather never paint my nails again.  I love a nice shiny lip.

13) Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?

I have emotional issues with my eyebrows so I'd rather have none than crazy ones.  I've had crazy ones (one) most of my life!

14) Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?

Nail polish, hands down!

These were fun to think about, thanks for tagging me Tanya!

I tag YOU!  If you want to do this tag please let me know so that I  can check it out!

The Resolute Beauty Blogger - March Updates

Hi everyone, welcome to the Resolute Beauty Blogger Series!

Myself and Shalunya from Shalunya & Boyet have created The Resolute Beauty Blogger. The Resolute Beauty Blogger is a year long program designed for you to create, stay focused on and achieve your 2014 beauty and blogging resolutions.  Please see the original introductory post for the Resolute Beauty Blogger for full details about this series.

This is my third posting so I will be giving updates on the goals I set for myself in January.

1. Increase my Twitter and Bloglovin followers by 20 per month.
March Update: I surpassed this goal.  I increased Twitter followers by 201 and Bloglovin followers by 51 between February and March.

2. Keep track of my blog's monthly stats.
March Update: I kept track of my monthly blog stats using the table that I discussed in my January post.

3.  Participate in 1 tag per month.
March Update: I participated in the "Face Five Challenge" tag.

4. Do not do more than 3 hours of blogging relating "stuff" per weeknight.
March Update: I did better at this this month.  The latest I've stayed up was 12:30am and that was only a few times.  I'd like to change that to midnight for the next month!

5. Come up with a weekly or monthly series for my blog.
March Update: I've been continuing my "Frugal Fridays" series which people seem to like so that makes me happy!

6. Do a tutorial, Face of the Day post, or a "tips" type post once a month.
March Update: I had to do a full face makeup shot and a sort-of tutorial in the "Face Five Challenge" tag.

7. Don't be so self-conscious of posting full face pictures of myself.
March Update: Though I did do a full face shot in the "Face Five Challenge" tag, I wasn't very comfortable with it.  I still need to work on my confidence in that department.

8. Make my blog look more personal.  Add a pretty background, a cool header,  etc.
March Update: I changed my blog name which I'm extremely happy about.  I even bought the domain name so I feel all professional now haha.  As for my blog design, I centered my blog title.  This took a while for me to figure out how to do so it was a big deal.  Baby steps!

Frugal Friday: Physicians Formula Organic Wear CC Curl + Care Mascara - Review

In this week's edition of of Frugal Friday I'm featuring Physicians Formula Organic Wear CC Curl + Care Mascara.   This mascara retails for $9.99 depending on the store and uses "natural origin lash extension fibers for a false lash effect".

Physicians Formula Organic Wear CC Curl + Care Mascara

All of Physicians Formula mascaras have an odd leaf-like shape.  The brush is very curved and kind of reminds me of a banana.  The bristles are plastic and spiky which is the type I prefer because I find I get less clumps from this type of wand.

Physicians Formula Organic Wear CC Curl + Care Mascara

This mascara is supposed to curl your lashes as well as volumize, condition, and nourish.  Despite the fact that it's supposed to curl on its own, I still curled my lashes before I application.

Below are photos of me with 1-4 coats of this mascara and you can see that it never clumps.

Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara 1 coat
Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara 2 coats
Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara 3 coats
Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara 4 coats
The Physicians Formula Organic Wear CC Curl + Care Mascara is absolutely my favorite drugstore mascara that I've tried since I started this series.  It doesn't clump and with 3 or 4 coats you can get a good amount of drama.  But it's also good for daytime use with just 1 or 2 coats.

This makes me want to try other Physicians Formula mascaras.  I hear the one in the green tube is great, I'll probably pick that one up next time there's a decent sale.

Have you tried this mascara?  What do you think of it??

DIY: At Home Gel Nail Polish Removal

I love me a nice gel manicure.  They last at least 2 weeks on my nails and they are super shiny and never chip.  The problem for me is the price.  Around these parts, the cheapest I've found is $25 and of course that doesn't count the fact that you have to go back to the salon and pay an additional $10 for them to remove the polish for you.  Of course they bait you in by offering a new regular mani for just a few bucks on top of the $10.  Overall it can really add up and to be honest, I just didn't feel like going back to the salon.

You will need:

Cotton balls
Nail File

1. File the top coat of nail polish a little.  This is to put some scratches in the top coat of the gel polish to really let the acetone soak in.

2. Pour some acetone into the bowl and soak the cotton balls.

3. Squeeze the cotton balls so they aren't dripping wet and apply them over your nails and wrap the cotton balls in aluminum foil.

4. Wait 10-15 minutes then remove the foil and cotton.

5. Use your other hand's nails to pick away at the peeling polish.

7. Apply hand cream and perhaps a nail strengthener if you wish.

As you can see I still had little spots of polish left but that was fine with me.  Overall this took me about 30 minutes but saved me a trip to the nail salon and at least 10 bucks.

Hope this helped anyone considering removing their gel mani at home.  Have you ever tried this procedure?

Giveaway Hauls

Winner winner chicken dinner!

Let me preface this by saying I never win anything, ever.  So it was pretty amazing that in the past few months I won two giveaways!  This photo is everything I won in both giveaways.

The first prize I won was from Karen over at Unpack the Box.  She subscribes to tons of subscription boxes ranging from beauty to lifestyle and even pregnancy boxes.  She gives thorough reviews of all the boxes and she also does beauty reviews, please go take a look at her blog.  She also has amazing giveaway, obviously!

The prize was the Julep Naughty and Nice Mystery Box.

In addition to the items in the photo there were also small packets of skin serum, hand cream, and some green tea blotting papers.  I received 6 full size Julep polishes including (pictured from left to right) Alaina, Nellie, Brenda, Aviva, Joanna, and America.  I also received a face primer, a double ended eye pencil, a lipgloss in Timeless, and Rock Star hand cream which smells so pretty!  I love everything that I got in this giveaway, thanks Karen!  I can't wait to use these polishes, all the colors are gorgeous!

The next giveaway I won was actually through Instagram.  Kelsey has an amazing account with gorgeous makeup and and face of the day photos, you go check her out on her Instagram and Twitter.  She's running another giveaway soon!

In this giveaway I received a pretty makeup bag, a tube of Maybelline Falsies, one of the new Maybelline cream blushes, a sample of the new Urban Decay Naked glosses, a NYX jumbo eye pencil crayon in Milk, and the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette.  Another amazing prize!  I've been wanting the NYX crayon in Milk for a while now, from reviews it seems like it really makes shadow colors pop.  And the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette, oh wow!  I've been wanting this for so long and now that I have it I'm sure I'll be using it every single day!

So those are my giveaway wins, to be honest I really just wanted to give a shoutout to the ladies who had the giveaways.  Hope you enjoyed this different kind of haul, it's got me thinking of my own next giveaway!

Have a great week everyone!
