Beauty Crown Awards Week 5 - Face Products & Tools

The Beauty Crown Awards are a yearly favorites collaborative effort including beauty bloggers around the globe. The Beauty Crown Awards were created by Lily from Beauty with Lily Liz from My Pretty Obsessions, Jackie from Five Two Certified, and Shalunya from Shalunya & Boyet.  The Beauty Crown Awards are a 5 week event with each week covering types of products.

Week 5 of the Beauty Crown Awards covers Facial Care Products & Tools. Below are my selections:

FACIAL SKIN CARE

Cleansers
Cetaphil takes my makeup off and doesn't leave that gross filmy feeling behind.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Exfoliators
derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub came in an Ipsy bag.  It really made my skin feel so fresh and glowy.

  Masks
I received a sample of GlamGlow in an Ipsy bag.  Just like the derma e above, this really cleans my skin and I look so glowy after.

Cleansing System
I really love my Clarisonic Mia for how clean it makes me feel.

TOOLS

Brushes
To be honest I'm not attached to any specific brand of brushes.  I currently have Crown and ELF brushes and random ones I've picked up here and there, definitely nothing high end though.   I'd love to try Real Techniques or Sigma

 Eyelash Curler
Shu Umera just fits my eyeball perfectly and doesn't pinch.

Tweezers
I have an old pair of flat tip Revlon tweezers.  I honestly can't grab any hairs with the slant tip ones.

This is the conclusion of the Beauty Crown Awards.  I'd love to thank the lovely ladies who set this up.  It was really fun thinking about all my faves and learning about everyone else's.  It's really opened my eyes to other brands and products to try!

Mini Sephora Haul, MAC, Julep, Ulta

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!

Today's post is about a few things I've purchased over the past few weeks.

Julep Nail Polish in Sylvia
Right after Thanksgiving someone on Twitter posted about a special that Julep was having.  The special was that a few of their nail polish colors were $1 AND included free shipping (you were limited to one per person).  So for a buck I got this pretty purple polish which regularly costs $14 delivered to me!  I've never tried Julep polish so I am excited to try this color out.

Ben Nye Banana Powder
I've been on the hunt for a nice light setting powder and the lovely Liz from My Pretty Obsessions recommended this to me.   I've tried this a few times and I like it.  I plan to do a review of this and a few other powders in the next few weeks.

Physicians Formula Mineral Glow Pearls in Translucent Pearl
I've been looking for a nice highlighting powder and purchased this one one with a coupon at Ulta.  This gives a very nice subtle shimmer.  Full review coming soon.

MAC Superslick Liquid Eye Liner in Cockiness (from the RiRi Hearts MAC Holiday Collection)
I believe this is sold out everywhere.  This is a GORGEOUS rose gold colored liquid liner.  I've actually never used it and to be honest not sure when I will.  I wouldn't say this is an everyday
liner but I just had to get it because of the gorgeous color!

NARS Nail Polish in Disco Inferno
This was on sale at Sephora for $5 (regularly $19)!  It looks like a pretty pearly green color.  I'll be doing a NOTD with this for sure.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light
The hype about this powder is pretty crazy right now so when I got the $15 coupon from Sephora I knew this is what I was going to purchase.  This shade is a champagne pearl type color.  I'm working on a full review of this product but spoiler alert...it wasn't that exciting to me.

So that's everything for now.  If you follow me on Instagram (@glossyglamblog) you know that I've been obsessed with all the makeup sales at the drugstores right now.  I'm working on a post about settings powders and highlighters including the ones listed here and some I've gotten in the drugstore sales since.  Have a great day everyone!

Ulta Haul

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and got to celebrate with family and loves ones!

This is an Ulta Haul purchase that I made online with my 20% off coupon from 2 weeks ago.   On top of the 20%, my Discover card was also offering 15% cash back that day.  So I basically got everything for 35% off wow!

Here's everything I bought:

ROC Retinol Correxion Sensitive Eye Cream - $22.99
I had been wanting to try a ROC eye cream for a while now so I decided to try one while I could get a nice discount.  I've been using eye creams for YEARS now and I can't say that I have found one that truly works.  Ulta had 3 ROC eye creams and they all had decent reviews so I honestly just picked one.  I'll let you know if this is any good.

Goody Quik Style Brush - $12.99
This brush has absorbent microfiber bristles in between the real bristles.  I've used this brush a few times now and it does absorb some of the water from my wet hair.  It reduces drying time when I use a hairdryer a little bit, not a huge amount though.  My recommendation is that if you can get this for a nice discount, go for it.  I would definitely not pay full price though.

Macadamia Deep Rapair Masque Sample Size - $4
A ton of my blogging friends have recommended this hair mask so it's been on my radar for a few weeks now.  The full size of this product has a steep price tag of $33 so I decided to try this sample size for only $4 first.  This is a deeply nourishing treatment for dry and damaged hair which my hair certainly qualifies for.  I hope to use this mask sometime this weekend and will keep you posted on what I think!

bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss - $18
A month or so ago I was in a Twitter Chat and red lips came up.  Someone recommended this gloss in the color Game Changer which is red but has a subtle-ish glossy color.  I'd love to thank that person because I LOVE this gloss in this color!  I can't really wear dark lip colors because they fade so quick on me and look redic because it fades from my inner lips out.  This gloss is not very sticky but lasts a good amount of time.  The color is so pretty, not TOO red, and so very shiny.  Love this!

Benefit The Sizzlin' Six - $27
This set includes 6 of Benefit's best selling products.  I've actually only ever tried two products from Benefit, a sample of They're Real mascara and a sample of Watt's Up highlight (from a free birthday pack from Sephora).  I figured this was a good set to introduce me to some of Benefits other products.  This set includes samples sizes of the POREfessional primer, BADgal lash, Dandelion blush, Ultra Plush Dandelion Lip Gloss, Benetint, and Girl Meets Pearl.  So far I've tried the primer and Girl Meets Pearl mixed together and that gave me a nice pearly primed look to my face before my foundation.  I look forward to using everything else and will keep you posted on my thoughts on each item!

Too Faced Beauty Blogger Darlings - $20
This is actually sold out at Ulta now but it's still available at Sephora.  I have never tried anything from Too Faced and again I figured this would be a good intro for me to this brand.  This set includes samples sizes of Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, Primed & Poreless Face Primer, Better Than Sex Mascara, and Shadow Insurance Eye Shadow Primer.  I've tried the Shadow Insurance which is great.  I used it for my holiday party and when I had to wash my face before bed my eye makeup looked like I had just applied it!  I also tried the Better Than Sex Mascara which IS dramatic but very clumpy for me.  I definitely have to run my Tweezerman Lashcomb through my lashes afterwards.  I haven't tried the bronzer yet but like everyone in the blogosphere says, it totally smells like chocolate which is awesome!  Again, I'll keep you posted on my thoughts of the other products.

Urban Decay Vice 2 - $59
This is now currently sold out at Ulta and Sephora but still available on the Urban Decay website.  Yes, it's very very pricey but with the discount I got I couldn't pass it up.  This palette includes 20 brand spanking new eye shadow colors.  There are some matte neutral colors but most of the colors are shimmery and jewel toned which is totally my cup of tea.  The colors are super pigmented and buttery smooth going on.  I did a blue and silver eye look for my holiday party which came out gorgeous in my humble opinion.  :)

The case itself is amazing.  It's hard plastic and with the press of a button it opens slowly and the mirrored lid stays open in a position tilted perfectly for makeup application.  It also includes a double sided shadow/crease brush.  This is a very versatile palette and would be great to travel with.

Phew, that was a huge haul and this is a long post!  So far I love everything I bought but I will do full reviews for any items that I feel like you guys should definitely know about or if I feel there is anything I should warn you to stay away from.  Have you guys tried any of these items?  Any thoughts or tips you can give me??

I hope you all have a wonderful day and a great weekend!

Beauty Crown Awards Week 4 - Eye and Random Products

The Beauty Crown Awards are a yearly favorites collaborative effort including beauty bloggers around the globe. The Beauty Crown Awards were created by Lily from Beauty with Lily Liz from My Pretty Obsessions, Jackie from Five Two Certified, and Shalunya from Shalunya & Boyet.  The Beauty Crown Awards are a 5 week event with each week covering types of products.

Week 4 of the Beauty Crown Awards covers Eye & Misc Products. Below are my Week 4 selections:

EYES

Primer
I have 3 faves only because I don't feel there is any difference between them.  I love the Urban Decay Primer Potion, the BareMinerals Prime Time Eyelid Primer, and Too Faced Shadow Insurance.
Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion Tube - OriginalPrime Time Brightening Eyelid PrimerToo Faced - Shadow Insurance

 Pressed Shadows
Any shadows by Urban Decay.  They are so pigmented and buttery smooth.
Naked

 Mascara
My current fave mascara is YSL Faux Cils.  Gives great volume and really holds a curl.

Eyeliner
By far the best eyeliner I've used is Urban Decay 24/7.  Most liners usually run on me, especially in my waterline but this eyeliner stays put no matter what!  I have about 8 of them, eeeks.  :)
24/7

Palette
Again, I have to give it to Urban Decay!  I love my Naked Palette but I just received the Vice 2 Palette and oh my gosh this is amazing!  It's got a few neutral colors but most are shimmery gem colors.  They are so pigmented and gorgeous.  If you've never tried Urban Decay shadows you've just got to find a way to get your hands on some!

 InStyle Magazine

Beauty Subscription
Ipsy is my favorite beauty subscription service.  I've tried Birchbox and Sample Society and Ipsy is by far the most fun for a makeup lover like myself.

Beauty Product from Subscription
Derma-e Microdermabrasion Scrub is my fave product that I received from Ipsy.  I never heard of this product or brand before I received this scrub.  I loved it, it really just made my skin glow.

So those are my fave eye products and a few randoms.  I can't believe there's only 1 week left of this series!

p.s. I'd like to wish a VERY Merry Christmas to all my readers out there who celebrate and for those who don't celebrate, have a wonderful day off! :)

December Ipsy Bag

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

The theme for December's Ipsy bag is Celebration which is appropriate with all the holiday and New Years parties coming up.  In case you haven't heard, Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription service.  For just $10 a month you receive 4-6 deluxe or full sized beauty items all in a really cute little makeup bag.  I've tried a few other monthly beauty subscription services and Ipsy is by far the best in my makeup obsessed opinion!

The bag this month is black and it has a cute diamond shaped quilted type design to it.  It can easily be used as a clutch and in fact, one of my friends used it as a clutch at our work holiday party this past Friday!  Here are the contents of my bag:

I received 2 large samples of Signature Perfume by English Laundry, one for women and one for men. My least favorite thing to receive as a freebie or even a gift is perfume.  Probably because I already have a TON of perfume samples and a few almost full bottles that last me YEARS.  Anyways, these both smell really nice.  These scents come in a variety of sizes and prices.

Nicka K Nail Polish in NY139 Ripe Apple - $4.99
I've never heard of this brand before.  The color I received is a gorgeous classic red.  The formula is thick and creamy, easy to apply, and not streaky.  Great quality formula.  I'm glad I received this nail polish and especially in this color!

NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in Sky Pink - $3.99
We've gotten NYX lipsticks before and I'm a fan.  They are pigmented and very very creamy.  I'm not a huge fan of this color though, it's a frosty pink which doesn't look good with my coloring.  I may try layering it over a darker color.

Be A Bombshell The One Stick in Flustered - $16
Ipsy sends us this brand quite often and they have quality products in my opinion.  The color I got is a shimmery pink-ish red.  This product can be used on the eyelids, lips, or cheeks.  I'm not sure who's going to use this color on their eyelids but ok.  I tried it on my lips and it's fine...creamy, pigmented.  It's good on cheeks too but I'm not good with cream blushes on my cheeks.  I can never get both cheeks even no matter if I use a brush or my fingers.  It's a pretty color though so I'll keep playing with it.

Pop Beauty Eye Shadow Trio in Smokin' Hot
The 3 shadow palette is not available online but the 10 color palette is $24.  We've gotten a Pop Beauty lip crayon in the past which I thought was ok.  Sorry about the flash in this photo, the colors are black, gray, and a white-ish silver.  I'm going to give this palette away since the colors are almost identical to my Studio Gear Holiday Smokey Eye Palette

I received 5 items (6 if I count both perfume samples), 4 of which are full size (I'm saying the eye shadows are full size because each individual one IS a full size pan).  Overall this was a decent Ipsy bag and worth more than the $10 I paid for it.  My favorite item is definitely the red nail polish.  If you're not already a subscriber, I highly recommend it.  It's so much fun to see the shiny pink Ipsy envelope in your mailbox and finding out what goodies you have inside each month!

Hope you enjoyed seeing what I got this month.  Have a great day everyone!

Holiday Party Look

Hi everyone, I hope you all are having a fantastic weekend!  I am actually off work for 16 whole days and I couldn't be happier!  It's also my 3 month blog anniversary today yay!  I can't even believe it's only been 3 months, seems sooo much longer!  :)

This is going to be a post about the look I achieved for my company's annual holiday party.  This is actually a pretty huge and fancy party so I look forward to them every year because it's a chance to really get glammed up.

For my makeup I used a million items as you can see from this mess!

I wanted to do a blue smokey eye and I used mostly the Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette (which coincidentally and luckily I received in the mail that very night!).  The main colors of this look were Madness, Prank, and Shellshock (silver).  I also used my Be A Bombshell liquid liner, UD 24/7 liner in Zero and Deviant, and the Starlooks pencil in Topaz.  I used my YSL Faux Cils mascara and some falsies (I went through 3 sets and even these ones came out wacky because of my dumb shaky hands, grrr!).

I apologize for the quality of these photos, I live alone and can never really get good selfies (does anyone else have this problem and any advice for me??).  Anywho, you can't really see it in these photos but the blue was REALLY vibrant and the silver in the inner corners was so bright and shimmery.  Oh well.

The rest of my face:
Benefit Porefessional + Girl Meets Pearl, Double Wear foundation with beauty blender, UD Baked bronzer all over, NARS Laguna bronzer to contour (I swear contouring just doesn't show up on me no matter how dark I try to do it), NARS Orgasm blush, MAC Prep + Prime for under eyes, Watt's Up to highlight, Hourglass Ambient Lighting in Luminous Light for highlight powder on top of cheeks and some all over (review on this coming up, so far I'm underwhelmed).  For lips I used my brand new BareMinerals Marvelous Moxie gloss in Game Changer which I LOVED!  Again, these photos don't really showcase my makeup that well.

I also applied Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs all over my legs and arms.

For my nails I used nail stickers from Sephora.  They were black with gold specks, shiny and festive.  I painted my toes red with the nail polish I received in my December Ispy Bag from Nicka K.

Anyways, here's a photo of the final look from the party and another of my all time favorite coat.  :)

The party was super fun and it's always neat to get to see your co-workers all dressed up and meet their significant others.   Overall I really liked my look and I was sad to have to wash my face at the end of the night!

This is definitely a different kind of post for me so I hope that you enjoyed it.  I feel weird about there being so many pics of ME ha!  Please let me know if you have any specific questions on the makeup application since I know I went over it pretty quick.

Hope you all have a great day! :)

Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stain - Review

Happy Friday beauties!  Today is my last day of work till the New Year woohooo!!!!

Today I'm going to discuss the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levris Glossy Stain.  Phew, that's a long name!  I call it my YSL Glossy Stain.  :)

This is a stain but unlike most stains it is not the least bit drying.  According to Sephora, this product "combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long wear of a stain".

I constantly lick and bite my lips so lip products don't last very long on me.  This stain is the longest wearing lip product that I have ever owned.  I have this in the color 7 Corail Aquatique which is coral-ish which I think is nice for my coloring.  You can see below that unlike most stains, it is so shiny, it almost looks like a gloss!

YSL Glossy Stain in 7 Corail Aquatique - 2 coats

If you were thinking about adding this to your makeup arsenal I'd say go try it out at Sephora or a YSL counter.  What I do to test my lippie purchases is try it out, then leave and finish my mall activities and see how the lip product has held up and then make my decision.   This product is expensive at $34 but it's worth it in my opinion because it lasts so long on me.

I haven't read too many other blog reviews on this so let me know if you have it and what you think or if you are planning to get it!  Have a great day and weekend everyone!

Our goal is to make 2014 a year of success and achievements. We believe that we can help encourage each other to stretch out of our comfort zone and reach new heights. It's time to conquer our insecurities in order to step into our greatest potential. Through participating in The Resolute Beauty Blogger, we hope you will gain greater confidence, create more collaborations, stay focused on your goals, reach a larger audience, make new connections and grow as a blogger.

So how does a blogger participate in "The Resolute Beauty Blogger" you might ask. Simply start by indicating your interest by commenting below.  On January 8, your hosts and cohosts will publish our resolutions along with thought provoking questions. You will publish your resolutions and your answer to the questions on January 15. Every month on the 8th the hosts and cohosts will publish an update on our resolutions and ask another question. You will publish your update and answer on the 15th. We would like to see all of our participants celebrate goals achieved and create solutions to overcome obstacles.

We are certain that together we can witness some amazing achievements. However, we need to remember the only way we can reach great heights is to try lots of new things, some of which may not work.  Trust us when we say their is still beauty in learning to fail graciously.  All success stories are littered with opportunities that fell flat. This is where we can lift each other up to try again.

We sincerely hope you will join us for The Resolute Beauty Blogger.  We believe that together we will enjoy watching our fellow bloggers achieve their goals while we soar to our own new heights. Feel free to include any personal goals in addition to your beauty and blogging goals. The more motivation the better.

You might want to achieve a specific number of followers on G+ or Bloglovin. Maybe you'd thought about doing YouTube videos in addition to blogging. Include some smaller goals and some larger goals. If you achieve the smaller ones you can always add new goals to your list. The possibilities are endless. Let's support and encourage others to visualize our potential and reach our goals. Together we can make 2014 a year of successes for all of us.

Update: I just wanted to post a little update and sneak peek of my resolutions.  One of my resolutions is going to be to increase my numbers...followers, views, etc.  A little while ago I found The SITSGirls blog and I love it!   They have so much great info and a great community.  I then found some printable freebies that they have HERE.  These printables will be great for keeping track of your blog stats and schedules in order to stick to your goals/resolutions.  I've already started using the Website and Social Stats Tracking Sheet but I've added a BlogLovin line.  Anywho, just wanted to share this little bit of info to anyone who's interested.  Hopefully will be helpful for someone! :)

STEAMCREAM* - Review

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a great week!  To all my fellow New Englanders who got hit with the snow tonight, I hope everyone is keeping safe and warm!

Anywho, I was recently able to try a jar of STEAMCREAM moisturizer which can be used for the body, hands, and face.

These creams come in adorable tin jars that can be re-used for any number of things.  I plan to re-use mine to store hair elastics and bobby pins on my vanity.  The tin I received was PurPure which is a really pretty purple tin.

According to STEAMCREAM, this moisturizer is made from natural ingredients that are "fused together" by a shot of steam.  The steam process makes the lotion lightweight so that it can really sink into the dry areas of your skin leaving your skin softer for longer periods of time.

This company does not test on animals and uses vegan ingredients that are produced sustainably.

I tried this lotion on my body and it is in fact very lightweight, does not feel greasy, and does seem to really "sink in" to my skin.   Fair warning though, the scent is really strong and sort of reminds me slightly of Aveda products which I know some people like very much.  Although, a few minutes after application the smell is very faint and soft which is really lovely.

These moisturizers come in a huge variety of tin designs and sizes.  The size I received retails for $20 which is an amazing deal for a high quality lotion and re-usable tin!  These would be a great gift for anyone especially around the holidays and especially in the winter.  You should definitely check out all the options!

*This product was provided to me for trial and review.  All opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Beauty Crown Week 3 - Lip & Nail Products

The Beauty Crown Awards are a yearly favorites collaborative effort including beauty bloggers around the globe. The Beauty Crown Awards were created by Lily from Beauty with Lily Liz from My Pretty Obsessions, Jackie from Five Two Certified, and Shalunya from Shalunya & Boyet.  The Beauty Crown Awards are a 5 week event with each week covering types of products.

Week 3 of the Beauty Crown Awards covers Lip & Nail Products. Below are my Week 3 selections:

LIPS

Lipstick
I'll pick 2.  First one is the Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick because the pigmentation is amazing and I love the color of the one I bought, Manic.  My all time fave lip color is my YSL Glossy Stain.  It's a really nice stain and is the lip product that lasts the longest on me.  I'll be posting about it later this week.  :)

Urban Decay - Revolution LipstickYves Saint Laurent - ROUGE PUR COUTURE<br>Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain

Gloss
My fave lipgloss is MAC Lipglass.  It feels like glue but is so very shiny and shimmery and lasts a decent amount of time on me.

 Pro Longwear Lipglass

NAILS

Polish
I've always preferred OPI polish even over Essie.  I find OPI to be so creamy and thick and easy to apply.

 Basecoat & Topcoat
I haven't found a basecoat or topcoat that excites me too much so I think they are a dime a dozen.  I currently use Sally Hansen for both right now and they are fine.

Well those are my picks for fave lip and nail products.  I hope everyone has a great week!
