2013 Lancome Holiday Beauty Box - Review

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!

This time of year there are so very many special holiday gift sets and limited edition palettes out there it can make your head spin!   I decided to treat myself to the Lancome Holiday Beauty Box.

My oh my, do I love this!  I've wanted it ever since it came out and I pretty much broke down and bought it right away!

This is a holiday beauty box that is $59.50 with ANY Lancome purchase.  It includes 12 full size items and 2 deluxe size samples.  The case is black with red lining, has a nice leather look, and 2 compartments.  It can be used for any number of things.

The story behind the purchase: I first bought this at a Macys.  I honestly didn't need or really want anything from Lancome and so when I saw that you could buy this box with ANY purchase, I told the associate that I wanted to buy an eye pencil sharpener.  I wanted to be able to spend as little money as I could so that I'd feel less guilty about the $60 I was about to spend on the box.  Her reaction "are you kidding me?" was kind of lame but mine was better, "NOPE!".  So that was that.  When I got home and checked my email I saw one from ebates that they were doing 10% cashback for Lancome.com.  So right away I went to the Lancome site and for some reason there was a code right there for 15% off any purchase!  So I made the same exact purchase I had made a few hours earlier at Macys except this time it cost me $10 less because of the 15% off, not to mention the 10% cashback I'd be getting from ebates!  I later returned my Macys purchase of course.  Phew, that was  long story but I felt like it was worth telling because with a little extra effort I saved myself over $15 and so I felt slightly less guilty spending so much on more makeup I didn't need.  :)

There are two versions of this box, Classic and Dramatic.  I chose the Dramatic because the colors went better with my skin tone.

What's included:

Color Design Mono Eyeshadows in Off the Rack, Drama, and Clock Strikes 12
Color Design Lip Shades in Fashion Icon and Love It
Juicy Tube in Miracle
Blush Subtil in Rose Fresque
Le Crayon Khôl Eyeliner in Black Ebony
Hypnôse Drama Mascara
Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover
Deluxe sample of La Base Pro Makeup Primer
Deluxe sample of New Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate

Love It and Fashion Icon

Love It is a nice pinky nude shade.

Fashion Icon is a gorgeous shimmery pink shade perfect for the holidays.  That hand below is not my hand because I was giving this to my friend so I used her hand to do the swatch.

Miracle on me is pretty much a clear shimmery gloss.  It might show up a little pinker on lighter skinned folks.
Miracle

This blush is really pretty and smells nice and perfumey.  To be honest, blush doesn't really excite me.  Maybe because I have slightly tan looking skin so I don't really see a huge difference with different shades of blushes.  They are all pink to me.  Some darker, some lighter.  :)
Rose Fresque

I've never tried Lancome primer, I will let you know what I think.
La Base Pro Makeup Primer

I've tried this eyeliner before and it's good.  I won't use it in my waterline because it doesn't stay but I can use it on my upper lid.
Le Crayon Khôl Eyeliner in Black Ebony

I currently have the waterproof version of this mascara in rotation and it is great!  It gives a nice dramatic look and keeps my lashes curled.
Hypnôse Drama Mascara

This kit also came with a liner brush and a shadow brush.  Both feel very soft and pick up a good amount of product and feel great going on the eye.

"Smoother more radiant skin" in 7 days??  If that is true, then I look forward to trying this serum!
Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate

These are all very pretty shadows and I'd say you can use all 3 colors together for a nice smoky eye look.  However, you'd really have to pack the color on because as you can see in the swatch photo, they are more on the sheer side.
Drama, Off the Rack, Clock Strike 12

Overall, I love this box!  I have so much stuff to try out and I know most of it will be great.  I'll keep you all posted!

On a different topic, I've been experimenting taking photos on my mirrored vanity table.  What do you guys think?  Does it look weird because of the reflection or do you like that?  Any opinions or advice is welcome!

Have a great day everyone!!

  6. Love a good deal... also eyeroll at the SA for giving you a hard time about buying a sharpener. If the rules of the special say with ANY purchase they should just sell you the sharpener, haha!
