Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Liner - Review

I bought the the Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Liner in Sabbath during a sale they were having a few weeks ago.  I posted that haul HERE.

I was super excited to try this eyeliner since I LOVE their 24/7 eye pencils.

As you can see the tip is VERY thin and I've mentioned before that I'm not that great at drawing a straight line yet.

I don't have any eye shadow or mascara on in any of the below pictures.

Left eye - Liner looks good with my eye open

Right eye - Very messy with my unsteady hand.  If you get any of the liner on your lashes they will clump together.  Not good.

Left eye closed

Overall I'd say this eye liner is a bit difficult.  You have to be VERY steady and make sure not to touch your lashes with the brush.  Also before applying, you should wipe the brush against the side of the tube or else you will have way too much product on the brush.

It does last throughout the day and is difficult to wash off.  I have also noticed a bit of flaking through the day.  It's VERY minimal, for me anyways.  It definitely washes off flaky though.

I do like what my eyes look like when they are open and if I can draw a decent line.  However, this is so difficult that I don't think I'd re-purchase this.  In fact, I'm considering returning it since UD has free returns.  I must say, I'm pretty disappointed about this.  :(

Overall grade - B

Urban Decay Haul - Part 2!

Happy Monday GlossyGlammers!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I was on the lookout for a pretty vanity table which I found with a matching chair, now I just need to find a pretty mirror and I'll be all set.  And of course I'll be blogging and posting pics of it when it's all set up!  :)

Well hopefully last week you checked out part one of my Urban Decay haul from when they had their 20% off sitewide sale.  Today's post includes the rest of the haul.  I saved all the eyeshadows for this post.  I won't go into specifics of each color since all 4 of these palettes have been out for quite some time now and there are already TONS of reviews out there.

I bought all 3 Feminine Dangerous Fun Palettes that were on sale for $16.99.  Each one came with a teeny tiny lipgloss.  Honestly, I took photos of each of the glosses on my lips and they all looked exactly the same, it just gave a nice shimmery shine but it felt pretty goopy (is that a word?).  These will be good to throw into my bag for some on the go shimmer.

About the palettes UD says: "Every eye shadow features our brand new Pigment Infusion System, the proprietary blend of ingredients that gives each shade its velvety texture, rich color, serious staying power, and blendability." Keep in mind though that these palettes are from the UD 2012 Holiday Collection.
They come in a zippered case with a mirror and a magnetic bottom which holds the palette.  You can actually remove the palette and use the pouch on it's own for glosses, pens, etc.  Though, since it's magnetic DO NOT put your credit cards in there or it will deactivate the strip!

All shadows were swatched without primer.

Ok, I know I'm a little late to the game but I'm still going to talk about the Naked Palette since I finally gave in and purchased one.  The reason I held out for so long (besides the price of course) was because neutrals don't really show up on me.  BUT, since this was on sale and I'm a beauty fanatic I had to have it.  Gosh, these colors are just gorgeous and I can't wait to play with them!  The palette also comes with a great eye shadow brush and a sample of the Primer Potion which is well loved in the beauty blogosphere.

This was a very large Urban Decay purchase for me and I'm putting myself on an eye shadow diet after this!

I have used the Naked Palette a few times and those colors are seriously amazing!  They go on like butter and are so smooth and long lasting!  I can't wait to explore the rest of the palettes and other items from the first part of my haul.

I'll post more pics and reviews as I start using everything!  Have a great day all!

Urban Decay Haul - Part 1

When Urban Decay had a sitewide 20% off sale a few weeks ago I took full advantage!  Not to mention my Discover Card is offering 5% cash back on all internet purchases made through the end of the year, it was an offer I couldn't pass up!

Sorry about my reflection!

I bought so much stuff that I decided to break it up into two separate posts.  Here we go!  :)

24/7 Liquid Liner in Sabbath which is a deep blue.  As you see below, the tip is SUPER thin.  I'm still not that great at drawing a straight line so I'm not sure if this will help or hurt me so I'll let you know.  This is $19.

I also purchased Skyscraper Multi-Benefit Mascara.  This was on sale for $10 (before the 20% off!) and UD claims that it lengthens, strengthens, thickens, brightens, separates, and curls.  WOW, that's a LOT...we shall see! I'm not quite sure how a mascara "brightens" though.   It has a rubber spiky brush.

Totally Loaded Big Fatty Macara was on sale for $22 for 2.  It's a fatter tube and seems like it has the same type of rubber spiky wand that the Skyscraper mascara has but just a bit thicker.

Baked Bronzer was on sale for $12.  I love this bronzer and already talked about it HERE.

Swatch of Baked Bronzer

The 24/7 Double-Ended Eye Pencil Set contains 2 double-ended 24/7 eyeliner pencils and it was only $12 (sadly, I can't find it on their website anymore)!  The colors are Zero, Corrupt, Stash, and Sabbath.  I've actually already purchased this when it originally went on sale but it was such a great deal that I went ahead and bought another!  Here is the post which talks about the colors in more detail.

I will post reviews and more pics once I've tried each item which I can't wait to do!

This was the first half of my haul.  The second half is actually more fun because it includes all of the eye shadow palettes so stay tuned!

Target Haul and Maybelline Reviews

Last night I needed a few necessities so I stopped into my local Tar-jay.  You all know the deal, you need one or two things and walk out with 15!

I remembered reading on the excellent Nouveau Cheap blog the other day that there are some super cheap clearance items to be found in the beauty department so I decided to check it out.

I found a few Maybelline items:
Great Lash Limited Edition Mascara - I See Blue & Teal Appeal
24hr Color Tattoo - Edgy Emerald
Color Show Vintage Leather Nail Polish - Red Relic

Some quick reviews:
I had tried Maybelline Great Lash Mascara many many moons ago and didn't like it at all.  BUT, seeing it for only $2.97 last night and in fun colors, I figured why not!  I was thinking it had been so many years since the last time I tried it AND it has such a huge following I had high hopes that perhaps they improved the formula. I was very very wrong.  This stuff is still junk.  Sure it separated my lashes...into clumpy spikes!  Someone on Twitter just told me that you can return cosmetics at Target so I'll def. try.  It's a bit of an effort but I want my $6 back!

Me with I See Blue

Me with Teal Appeal - This didn't even show up on me!

I was excited to find the 24hr Color Tattoo for only $2.24.   I'd read so many great things about it! This was actually quite nice.  The photo below was just a quick couple of swipes with my finger and no primer.  Edgy Emerald is a really pretty color and it stayed vibrant till I took it off about 4 hours later.

Color Tattoo in Edgy Emerald - No primer

Color Tattoo in Edgy Emerald - No primer

I saw a redd-ish nail polish for $1.48 so I didn't even think twice snatching it up!  This nail polish was tricky. I didn't actually read the bottle that closely so I didn't see that it was supposed to have a "vintage leather" look to it.  It's got a gritty texture because it's got some sort of flakes in the formula and it dries very matte.  I tried mine with a shiny top coat and that was a little better.  I guess in the end it DOES have a vintage distressed leather look to it but I'm just not a huge fan.

Overall, I was so excited to get all this stuff so cheap but after playing with everything, it was a bit of a disapointment.

Sunshine Award

Today was a great day because the gorgeous Becki from the super fun blog, The Struggles of a MUA nominated me for a Sunshine Award!  Check out her award post HERE.

I've seen this award on other blogs and wondered if there'd ever be a day that I'd be recognized by anyone out there, so thanks Becki!  :)

  1. List 11 facts about yourself
  2. Answer the 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you
  3. Nominate 11 bloggers you feel deserve this award
  4. Write 11 questions for them to answer in their award post
  5. Let your 11 bloggers know you have nominated them

The Sunshine award is given to bloggers who are positive, inspiring, creative or who’s blog you really enjoy reading.  Since some days my pageviews are embarassingly low, this feels I'm not just talking to myself out there in the blogosphere!

Here are the rules:

Here are 11 facts about me:
1.  I have two younger sisters age 30, and 18.
2.  So yes, that makes me in my thirties!
3.  Being in my thirties makes me slightly self-conscious about being on the older side of beauty blogging.
4.  I'm a scientist.
5.  I live just outside of Boston.
6.  I have an insane phobia of birds.
7.  I may be the only person on earth that doesn't like fall.  Sure it's pretty but it just means that winter is coming and I hate cold.

9.  I love shows like Walking Dead, but also The Bachelor.
10.  I bought my condo 2 years ago and it was one of my proudest moments!
11.  I'm shy in my blog.  It's hard for me to post close up makeup pics and if you've noticed, my main pic isn't even close up.

Here are the questions that Becki asked me:
1.  What inspired you to start blogging?  My obsession with beauty products!  I just love talking makeup and hair and skin stuff.   I’m always giving friends and family tips on the best and newest products so I figured I’d write it all down and share with whoever else stumbles upon my blog.
2.  Who is your idol and why?  Anyone who writes for a beauty magazine.  That's my dream job.
3.  At what age did you start loving make-up?  Must have been 5th or 6th grade.  I got obsessed with my friend’s makeup but I wasn’t allowed to wear any yet.
4.  What is your favorite film?  My Cousin Vinny.
5.  What is your favorite brand of makeup?  I’m not really attached to one brand.  I usually do stick with Urban Decay for eyes though.
6.  If you could recommend me one concealer what would it be and why?  I really like wearing MAC Prep + Prime as a concealer.
7.  Who is your biggest crush?  I’m guessing this means celebrity crush.  Channing Tatum.  Duh.
8.  Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years time?  I would love to be a well known beauty blogger at that point.
9.  Where to you find the best clothes?  The clearance section of Banana Republic, J. Crew, and Gap.  Also Express for going out clothes and Forever 21 for trendy pieces.
10.  Who was your first celebrity crush growing up?  Zack Morris!
11.  What was your first concert?  Garth Brooks.  I was 19.

Here are the 11 lovely bloggers that I chose:

All Dolled Up

And here are my 11 questions for these amazing bloggers:

1. Do you have a pet?
2. How long have you been blogging?
3. At what point did you know that your blog was “taking off” or if you are new like me, what would make you believe that you are "taking off"?
4. What is your fave hair product?
5. Do you use anti-aging products yet?  If so, what is your must have?
6. What is your fave tv show?
7. What is your favorite time of the day to catch up on the blogs you follow?
 8. What do you do when you’re not blogging?
 9. Do you have any piercings or tattoos?
10. What is your fave type of music?
11. What is your fave comfort food?

I will let these lovely ladies know they’ve been nominated.  This was something fun to do.  It may actually help me finally write up an About Me page!

October Ipsy Bag Review

Ipsy is a monthly beauty sample subscription service.  For only $10 a month you get a bag filled with 4-5 makeup, hair, or skincare samples that are almost always deluxe sample size and sometimes full size.  Let me tell you, I LOVE seeing the little shiny pink bag it comes in in my mailbox, it's so exciting!

Here's the October bag.

Coastal Scents eye shadow brush - I really love this, you can never have too many eye shadow brushes!
Regular price - $2.49

Bella Terra Mineral Cosmetics eye shadow in the color Emotion - It's a really pretty shimmery plum/purple.  Sadly, I am not a fan of loose shadows (or blushes, powders, etc.) so this particular item will be gifted to a friend or sister (I have 2).  Though I probably shouldn't say that in case they read this!  :)
Regular price - $14.99

Sexy Hair Spray Clay - I guess this is a texturizing spray which means that it gives a flexible hold. I've only tried this once but I would say that it gives a good hold.  The smell reminds me a little of the hairsprays I used in the 90s so I kind of love that about it. :)
Full size price - $18.99

Nourish Organic Deeply Nourishing Coconut & Argan Body Lotion - This is a nice lotion with a coconut smell.  Nothing too exciting.
Full size price - $9.99

Zoya nail polish in Neve - This is a really pretty metallic blue with a slight shimmer to it. We've gotten Zoya in previous Ipsy bags and I'm a huge fan!
Regular price - $8

Overall I'm happy with this bag and it seems like we got WAY more than the $10 we paid!  I love the shadow brush and nail polish.  Oh, and the little makeup bag is pretty cute too!

I'll give more extensive reviews to the items that I think deserve one in the coming weeks.

If you'd like to sign up for Ipsy, you can do so HERE.

derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub - Review

I received a jar of derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub in a previous Ipsy bag.  I don't usually review everything from my Ipsy bags but I wanted to review this.

derma e says: This award-winning, salon treatment alternative buffs skin, helping to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars.

derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub

 Full price is $32.50.

The consistency is a white gritty cream.  The directions say to use it once or twice a week and apply it to wet or dry skin.  You then "massage gently" for 3 minutes and then rinse.

derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub
I use this twice a week (when I remember) and I apply it dry.  I've tried using it on a wet face and I didn't feel like it had the same affect.  It definitely feels scratchy and irritating as you're scrubbing for those 3 minutes.  I also leave it on for 5-10 minutes after that.  I'm not sure if that does anything more but it makes me feel like it.  I then rinse with hot/warm water.

I haven't noticed any long term effects (maybe you need the full size jar and use it for much longer) but I love how I look after I use this!  My face feels SUPER clean and looks so bright and glowy!  I really love the derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub.

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs - Review

In the spring/summer when the sun is shining and our legs are bare, we all wish for nice smooth looking legs!  I don't know about you, but even with a tan, my legs are never an even color.  I also bruise very easily and they really show up on me (even though I have a natural light tan).

I had heard about Airbrush Legs a while ago but never got around to trying it out till this past summer.  I figured it was kind of a sham, how great could it really be??  Well, I was hugely mistaken because this stuff IS in fact great!

You would think that since it has "airbrush" in the name and it's in a spray can, that you are supposed to spray it right onto your legs.  Nope!  Even the directions say to spray it directly into your hands.

I spray it into my hand (in the sink!) rub them together and apply all over my legs...front and back.  This stuff is basically a liquid body foundation and it does take a lot of sprays to cover both legs to my satisfaction.  It's also pretty messy in your sink because the spraying makes the liquid go everywhere.  BUT, the end result is amazing.  It gives my legs a tan even color and leaves a subtle shimmer that is gorgeous!  In photos it almost looks like I'm wearing nude pantyhose.

I apologize for the lack of pics, it honestly doesn't show up as a swatch in photos.

I love this stuff and can't wait until it's skirt weather here in Boston again so that I can use it again!  However, when I finish this can, I'll probably buy the lotion version next.  I highly recommend!  Have a great day everyone!  :)

NYX Lipstick - Eucalyptus - Review

I hope everyone had a great weekend and has Monday off!  My weekend was pretty relaxing, though I do have to work on Monday.   boooo!  haha, oh well.

Admittedly, I'm not a huge wearer of lipstick.  My upper lip is pretty thin and I feel like dramatic colors really emphasize that.

That said, I do own quite a few lipsticks and I'm pretty darn tempted to try the new Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks since I don't think I've heard or read anything bad about those yet!

NYX says: "NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick is our classic lipstick for all occasions. The mineral-based emollient formula offers a beautiful velvet texture, saturated color and it resists wear and smudging."

This NYX lipstick comes in a TON of colors.  I got mine from an Ipsy bag and the color, Eucalyptus, is a really gorgeous bright fuchsia.  It's super creamy going on and feels very moisturizing.

The color is gorgeous but to be honest it doesn't "resist wear and smudging" as the description claims.  I'm a lip biter (trying to quit though!) so this lasts about 10 minutes on me.  Even when I consciously don't bite or lick my lips, the color transfers like crazy (napkins, spoons, straws, etc.).

I did discover one fun trick though: if I apply this at night right before bed I wake up with pink stained lips the next day and it actually lasts about 3 hours!  So that's basically all I'm going to use this lipstick for because if I were to wear it on a night out, I'd have to reapply every few minutes.

How do you guys feels about NYX lipsticks?  Can anyone recommend a lipstick to me that truly doesn't budge??
