Forever 21 Haul

Forever 21 is a great place to shop for items that you don't plan to keep for too long because to be honest, they don't last very long.  BUT, the styles are VERY on trend and generally just super cute!  Last week I got an email that all their sale items were an additional 30% off.   If you've never shopped at F21 before, everything in the store is very cheap and if they are on sale AND 30% off, you can't really go wrong!

Here are some of the items that I ordered.

Something I didn't take into account was size.  I'm usually an XS and sometimes a small in stores like Banana Republic, J. Crew, Gap, Express, etc.  I ordered all the clothes in small and they DID fit, but they were definitely snug in the rib cage area.  I loved everything though AND they were super cheap!  The dresses looked great and would be cute with flats or heels but they will have to wait till next spring since it's getting pretty chilly outside now.  The peplum top looked pretty hot with the white skirt.  I can't wait to wear everything!

I also got these 2 pairs of earrings.  They look MUCH nicer than they did online (and they came to about $2 each!) so I'm pretty excited!
Even though their regular prices are crazy cheap, I'd say the best time to shop at stores like Forever 21 is when there's a great sale like this.  Happy shopping!  :)

Makeup Storage - Muji Review

If you're anything like me your makeup takes up a ton of space on the bathroom counter and there's really no great way to organize it.  I've tried "caboodles" (remember those!?), those clear plastic container things, random plastic caddies...I feel like I've tried it all!  Those containers of course HOLD the makeup, I was just always looking for something that was also CONTAINED the makeup and kept it out of the way.  Well somehow in my millionth google search of makeup organizers I came across these little gems from a company called Muji
They are acrylic so it's great quality and you can get them in so many different sizes.  I got the one pictured with 5 skinny drawers and it holds a ton of stuff!  You can't really see in the photo of  mine below but I use a drawer for eye shadows, one for lipsticks and glosses, another for eyeliners, another for mascaras, and the last one for face powders/concealers/bronzers.  My Estee Lauder foundation in a bottle doesn't fit in a drawer so I just put it right on top.  I know at $27.99 there are much cheaper options for makeup storage and organization but I highly recommend these b/c they really keep your makeup organized and out of the way.  I LOVE mine and I'm thinking of getting another smaller one!

Obviously Twitter has been around for quite a while but I never got around to creating an account.  It always sounded kind of silly to me with all these celebrities and their silly tweets and photos.  BUT, I keep reading that creating a Twitter account will really allow me to reach more people with my blog and so I created one last night!  It was easy enough but I can honestly say that I had no idea how hashtags# (when did it stop being called the "pound" signal??) worked.  I guess you can write a little "tweet" and then put a hashtag in front of any word that you consider to be a keyword in what you just wrote.  For example, here's my very first tweet "I'm new to beauty blogging and this is my first tweet, yay! #beauty #beautyblog #newtoblogging".  I must admit, it's pretty exciting when someone starts following you, though I only have 8 followers right now ha!  :)

I'm not even sure why I'm posting this b/c I'm fairly certain that I'm one of the last people in the country to be using Twitter!

Anywho, here's my Twitter if you feel like following me and there's also a link in the panel on the right.

Yves Saint Laurent Faux Cils Mascara - Review

The mascara I'm currently loving is YSL Faux Cils!

My previous faves included DiorShow and Channel Inimitable.  I just love the YSL mascara, it separates and adds major volume but most importantly for me is that it holds a curl!  There are a couple of new variations of this mascara like "Shocking" and "Babydoll" which I hope to try at some point.  Of course a HUGE negative is the price ($30 a pop!) so I won't be buying those new variations any time soon.  I'm still on the lookout for a great drug-store mascara.  I've heard that L'Oreal Voluminous is great, has anyone tried this or have any other suggestions?

p.s. No matter what brand of mascara I use,  it has to be waterproof because for some reason I ALWAYS get raccoon eyes after just a few hours.  It sucks because waterproof it usually more clumpy than non so it takes a lot for me to really like a mascara.

Working out...ugh!

Ok, I'm not one of those people who loves to workout or feels incomplete if I don't workout for a day.  I love a lazy stay-on-the-couch-all-day type of day.  I had gone a good 2 years without doing any sort of workout and I am NOT exaggerating!  Not a hike, class, bike ride...nothing!

One day at work my co-worker who had just come back from maternity leave told me about the 7 minute workout.  It's basically a high-intensity interval workout with a bunch of exercises that you do for 30 seconds as hard as you can with a 10 second break in between each exercise.  The first time I tried it, it was hard!  You definitely break a sweat!  Unfortunately, since I hadn't done any sort of a workout for 2 years I was SO SORE for 3 days afterwards...from a 7 minute workout!  Anyways, since it was so quick I decided to stick with it and did it as many days a week as I could for a few months and even started doing it 2 times in a row.  It felt good to feel myself improving.  I next tried level 1 of the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred which I found on YouTube for free.  I did that several times a week for a while too.  It was a great feeling getting stronger...and seeing the muscle bumps in my arms added to that feeling!  A few weeks ago a new gym opened up at work so I've been going to that.  Right now I'm just doing the elliptical for 30 minutes and coming home and doing some abs and arms on my own.  I'm hoping I'll finally feel good enough to take a class at the gym.  For now I'm not sure if I could live through one!  :)

But no, I do NOT love working out now!  In fact, I still really dislike it and SO wouldn't do it if I didn't need to.  Now that I'm back into it I do find it more tolerable.  That's an improvement, right?!?!

So ladies if I, a lazy slacker for 2 whole years, can slowly get back into working out so you can you!  Just start small, I started REALLY small.

There are tons of 7 minute workout apps and here's a really basic one for your computer.

Frizz-Ease Hairspray - Review

I usually only wear hairspray to keep my side swept bangs in place and if I curl my hair when I go out at night.  I've tried so many different brands including Moroccanoil and Elnet.  Now, Elnet seems to have some sort of cult following, everyone loves it (hair stylists and most magazines recommend it) and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that doesn't!  You'd think these would both be pretty great hairsprays since they are so expensive (~$20 and $15 respectively) but I didn't like either one!  They didn't hold any style, ever!  It was as if I wasn't using any sort of hairspray at all.

The hairspray I keep going back to is Frizz-Ease and believe it or not and it's only about $5!!

It holds my side bangs in place all day and holds my long loose curls in place pretty well too!  I vow to stop trying new or expensive hairsprays and just stick with this one!  This is just more proof that you don't have to spend a lot to get great quality!  I highly recommend!

Monthly Sample Subscriptions - Ipsy!

To my delight, I discovered last year that there are monthly beauty product sample subscriptions in the world! These include Ipsy, Birchbox, Sample Society, and many more. When I first tried them out I signed up for the three I just mentioned. They are $10-$15/month and each sample box typically contains 4-6 samples and often with at least one full size or deluxe sample size item. I quit Birchbox after I received my fist mailing becase the samples were just really cheap brands and it didn't come with any deluxe samples. Samples Society was $15 and therefore included more deluxe size samples so I stuck with that one for a while even though it came with a lot of skincare products and not so much makeup. I eventually quit it because I wanted to pick just one subscription service and Ipsy was definitely the more fun box.
Ipsy's items are almost always fun makeup, hair, or nail products with at least one full size or deluxe sample in each mailing. It's only $10/month and from what I read online they are actually worth at least $40 or so. I'd highly recommend it if you have the extra $10 per month because when the shiny pink package arrives in your mailbox it's so much fun to see what items you received that month! Above is a pic of last month's goodies. I'll put up reviews of some of the items as I try them.  Oh and yes, each mailing comes with an adorable little makeup bag!

If you feel like signing up you can use THIS referral link or through the main website which I linked up above.   Enjoy!

I'm baaack!

I'm back! I started this blog back in 2009 and as you can see I only made a few posts before it just kind of fell by the wayside. I'd been thinking about it lately so I decided to start it up again and give it another shot. I hope you all like it! :)
